Ex-Wife’s Facebook Entrapment Plan Backfires
An Indiana woman going through a divorce pretended to be a pretty seventeen-year-old girl on Facebook in order to incriminate her ex-husband and gain the upper hand in a fiercely contested custody dispute. Angela Voelkert created a fake Facebook account for “Jessica Studebaker” and friended her ex-husband, David Voelkert. An online “relationship” developed between David and “Jessica”.
David told “Jessica” that he was looking for someone to murder his wife for $10,000 and that he was going to run away with his children. The FBI arrested David. But the charges were dropped and he was released once the FBI learned the true story.
Apparently, David had suspected it was Angela all along and signed a notarized affidavit shortly after Jessica came online. In it, he said that he believed “Jessica” was not a real person but rather his ex-wife or someone she knows. David stated that he communicated with “Jessica” in order to gain proof that his ex-wife was “tampering with his personal life.” According to the affidavit, David had no plans to harm his ex-wife or run away with the children. He then kept one copy and gave another to a relative for backup.
The big question: who’s the better parent? We’ll leave that one to the Indiana courts.
